Twenty-Four Days of Thanksgiving: A little bit of Gratitude and whole lot of yummy..

Today I am grateful for Toilet Paper..

I am so glad I live in this century cause

I would hated not having Toilet Paper!!!

I am going to be making one of these

at Pinterest Party Next week, but I had to share

this super cute idea with you from

Wouldn't this look cute on your fireplace mantle or table at Thanksgiving?  Below are the directions to make your own!
Supplies Needed:
4- 2×4 boards cut into the following lengths 10.5 in., 5 in., 4 in., 3 in.
Coordinating pieces of Scrapbook paper (DCWV The Green Stack used here)
Distressing ink (optional)
Modge Podge
Paint brush
Paint (Coffee Bean by Plaid used in this project)
Scissors or paper trimmer
Vinyl lettering cut into words “Faith”, “Family”, “Friends” and “We Give Thanks”
Vinyl transfer tape
Sandpaper
Corner trimmer (optional)
Directions:
Sand the block edges to remove rough areas.  Paint the blocks brown and allow to dry.
Cut scrapbook paper to fit the blocks.  Trim the paper slightly smaller than the wood (use corner trimmer to round edges of paper, optional).

Apply scrapbook paper to blocks using a thin layer of Modge Podge and allow to dry.  Lightly sand the ends of the paper to make it look worn and even with the blocks.
Use the distressing ink on the paper to give it an antique look (optional).
Now it is time for the fun part!  Adding the vinyl letters!  Separate the vinyl letters from the backing.

Apply the vinyl lettering to blocks using the vinyl transfer tape (follow manufactures directions for your vinyl transfer tape.)
Seal the blocks with another thin coat of Modge Podge, allow to dry and your project is complete!
Let’s get one more look at the finished project!  So cute!

Dollar Store Decorating: Turn Dollar Store Decor into something fabulous !

Here is a simple idea for The holidays!!

cournecopia

Simple DIY Instructions from Sisteroo

1. Buy tacky bright artificial fall foliage, pumpkins, apples, etc. Throw in a few pine cones for texture.

2. Spray paint with Krylon gold and silver metallic spray paint. I used silver as the base, and puffed just the tiniest wisps of gold paint from a distance--just to dust the tops of the items with pale gold dust.

3. Dot a few of the pumpkins with glue and sprinkle on a bit of silver glitter.

4. Arrange. If you have a thick satin ribbon, wrap it around the edge of your awesome glittery pile of harvest bounty.

Gobble Gobble.. Best Mashed tators ever

Ingredients

  • 5 pounds Russet Or Yukon Gold Potatoes
  • 3/4 cups Butter
  • 1 package (8 Oz.) Cream Cheese, Softened
  • 1/2 cup (to 3/4 Cups) Half-and-Half
  • 1/2 teaspoon (to 1 Teaspoon) Lawry's Seasoned Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon (to 1 Teaspoon) Black Pepper

Preparation Instructions

Peel and cut the potatoes into pieces that are generally the same size. Bring a large pot of water to a simmer and add the potatoes. Bring to a boil and cook for 30 to 35 minutes. When they’re cooked through, the fork should easily slide into the potatoes with no resistance, and the potatoes should almost, but not totally, fall apart.
Drain the potatoes in a large colander. When the potatoes have finished draining, place them back into the dry pot and put the pot on the stove. Mash the potatoes over low heat, allowing all the steam to escape, before adding in all the other ingredients.
Turn off the stove and add 1 ½ sticks of butter, an 8-ounce package of cream cheese and about ½ cup of half-and-half. Mash, mash, mash! Next, add about ½ teaspoon of Lawry’s Seasoning Salt and ½ a teaspoon of black pepper.
Stir well and place in a medium-sized baking dish. Throw a few pats of butter over the top of the potatoes and place them in a 350-degree oven and heat until butter is melted and potatoes are warmed through.
Note: When making this dish a day or two in advance, take it out of the fridge about 2 to 3 hours before serving time. Bake in a 350-degree oven for about 20 to 30 minutes or until warmed through.

Gobble Gobble.. Pecan PIE!!

This is From the Pioneer Woman herself.. but Its just like my Granny's  :)

Ingredients

Pie Crust:

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 sticks salted butter, cut into pieces
  • 3/4 cup vegetable shortening or lard
  • 1 whole egg, lightly beaten with a fork
  • 1 tablespoon distilled white vinegar

Filling:

  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup corn syrup (light or dark)
  • 1/3 cup melted salted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 whole eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup (heaping) chopped pecans

Directions

First, whip up the pie crust: Mix the flour and salt in a bowl. Add the butter and shortening. Work the butter into the flour using a dough cutter until the mixture resembles tiny pebbles.
Add the egg with, 5 tablespoons cold water and the vinegar. Stir the mixture until just combined. Divide the dough in half and chill until needed. Once chilled, sprinkle the cutting board or counter liberally with flour. Roll half of the dough into a large circle and place in a standard pie pan. Crimp the edges according to desired look. Reserve the other half of dough for another use.
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Next, make the filling: Mix the white sugar, brown sugar, salt, corn syrup, butter, vanilla and eggs together in a bowl. Pour the pecans in the bottom of the unbaked pie shell.
Pour syrup mixture over the top. Cover top and crust lightly/gently with foil. Bake the pie for 30 minutes. Remove the foil, and then continue baking for 20 minutes, being careful not to burn the crust or pecans.
The pie should not be overly jiggly when you remove it from the oven (though it will jiggle a bit). If it shakes a lot, cover with foil and bake until set, an additional 20 minutes. Required baking time seems to vary widely with this recipe. Sometimes it takes 50 minutes, sometimes it takes 75!
Allow to cool for several hours or overnight. Serve in thin slivers.

Happy Thanksgiving....

Happy Thanksgiving to all my friends and family, and those who read my blog. My life has changed a lot this past year, but as always I have many things to be thankful for, and even more so this year!

I am Thankful for...

Jesus Christ, who died for our sins, and is the only way to heaven.

God, our father, for his love

Bobby, I don't even think I can go into how deeply I am thankful for this man. He's so wonderful, he cooks, cleans, fix things, rubs my head till I go to sleep, holds me every night, is a wonderful father to my children and his, not to mention he loves Thanksgiving and Christmas as much as I DO!

Our children, Avery,Grace,Aidan,Hailey, and Vanessa... what a beautiful healthy group of children, how lucky are we to have such smart and wonderful children to raise.

I am thankful for having a job, for living in a small town, and in a wonderful place like Galax, for friends, for health, for family, and especially let's not forget chocolate. I am thankful for living in the United States, and very thankful for our freedom.

And now its time to play Pigims and injians as Aidan says,( Did you know they came here on a big boat?).....

Here is our Menu for Thanksgiving:

Layered Salad
Cranberry Salad
Homemade Cranberry Sauce, Turkey, and dressing, and gravy
Sweet Potato casserole
My Special Mashed Potatoes
Rolls
Asparagus Casserole
green beans
deviled eggs
macaroni and cheese
Beer Bread
Cheeseball and crackers

And for Dessert.. peanut butter pie, pumpkin pies, Chocolate Pumpkin Cheesecake,Applesauce cake, and chocolate cake. mmmmmm and it smells good!!
